God’s Lava Lamp

I’m not especially religious but I pondered this in the shower this morning after waking up to the soft patter of rain drops and thinking about last night’s NOVA presentation about expanding galaxies. What if the “Big Bang” and “Let There Be Light” are in fact, one and the same? Score one each for the scientists and the theologists. I offer this poetic postulation.

Poem Artwork

In the midst of darkness and nothingness

God became increasingly bored

His subscription to Heaven’s Digest had expired

A new big screen he could not afford

He needed something for amusement

A broken object that he could revamp

So he rummaged around in his closet

And pulled out an old lava lamp

He tinkered and puttered to repair it

Soon the old lamp looked like it was new

He wiped the glass clean of its smudges

And blew the dust off the old lampshade too

“Let there be Light,” he proudly exclaimed

As the lamps contents began to swirl

Graceful rotations of cosmic unity

With the iridescence of mother of pearl

He gazed at the motion for hours

Looking outside it was billions of years

What if we’re all part of the contents

Of a lava lamp that God bought at Sears

We have a whole new theory! Still, trapped inside the universe sounds better than being trapped in a lamp... my opinion! I don't know what to think of God's taste now!

Bought it on Black Friday, no doubt, probably on the sale rack. All sales are final..... no deposit, no return. Stuck with it, even though it isn't very bright.

Sounds like an old girlfriend of mine.

Been missin ya. Dick

A lava lamp He would have,
Made with real lava so hot,
The lamp would melt,
Upset He felt,
So to Sears He went to charge,
A big screen TV on His card,
At least in the opinion of just this one bard...Jurseeeeeeeeeey

He sure must be a big fella, or we are just so insignificant, so that every thing looks so much larger than your lava lamp. Bless ya!
