Hey folks I just learned that today is National donut day. There is still time to do your patriotic duty, so get out there and buy American!!!

Sticky gooey stretchy chewy Frosting on fingers like paste Hard to resist these little gems That go straight to your waist Gut bombs fat pills tummy anchors Names that we all know It doesn’t take very many at all For the end result to show So skip the veggies and celebrate This comes but once a year Support your local baker Who will gladly grow your rear Tell the doc to lighten up And join you in a dunk In coffee hot but decaf not The ring that’s truly junk Tomorrow is another day Back to broccoli and carrots Seize this chance to sugarize Forget their lack of merits Share an O-ring with a friend Perhaps you’ll get a kiss Either way the both of you Will find culinary bliss Copyright © 2012 Patrick Granfors

You sure you keep up with current events! My great uncle was a baker and always brought home lots of sugary pastry and donuts when we were there. I don't recall him ever being fat, although he died early in his 60s. His wife lived on into her 90s, eternally thin and very good-looking.

Loved this well conceived whimsical little journey, though I expected it to have some mention of cops somewhere in it.

Giggle...wish I had one right now! You had me fairly salavating for a donut, Patrick....but I enjoyed your poem much more than I would have enjoyed a donut...and it didn't make my butt fat! giggle
