Death Of A Majestic Hawk
He landed Near two
Sand crane chicks
With greedy eyes and thoughts
Of an easy meal.
Unknown to him the chicks parents
Were foraging for food
A few feet away
In the thick wetland weeds.
Before he drew His final breath
He was pounce upon
With a deadly vicious rage
Of protecting parents.
In less then a minute
He was clawed, pecked
And held under water
The crane felt It's life withering
Through his feet
Until his last heart beat.
And the sky's majestic hawk
Breathe no more
As the crane walked away
A dead Hawk's wing
Protruded from the water
The crane once again
Pounced upon him
For a split second
Assuring his death.

That was a terrifying sight to see. How nature takes care of itself. That hawk had probably killed thousands of times with young, only to be killed by watchful parents of another.
I was just a little while ago watching a gecko on the screen of my open spring window when a cat slammed its head against the screen and the window not 3 feet from my face and then taking its catch to the lawn for a snack followed by licking lips. I was counting on those lizards to help keep insects off our garden this year.

PS. I think you miss typed when you said the crane was underwater instead of the hawk.
Survival of the fittest, at least for the cranes this day...though be wary crane chicks as hawks usually dive in on the wing to grab unsuspecting chicks...great write, Bill...-e-
