In the Grand Beginning of all things

There was nothing in the vacancy of space;

There was simply nothing that could be named.

It was in this state that there arose the first existence --

The first existence, but still without Bodily Formation.

From that all things could then be generated,

Receiving what we called their proper character;

That which possessed bodily shape was then divided

Into life and death but with the only aim to discriminate

The beginning of one thing and the end of another.

And then without intermission there was what we call

The Process of Conferring unfolded

On the ceaseless thread of life -- the eternal existence

Also known as the curves and turns of Mother Nature.

Thus, the two processes continuing in operation

Made things reproduced in a great multitude.

As things were completed, they were regenerated,

Distinguishing lines of each, the Bodily Formation,

The body preserving in it the Spirit, and each

Had its peculiar manifestation to be considered

As its inherent nature. When nature of each one

Has been cultivated, it returns to its proper character;

And when that has been fully implemented, all comes

To the same condition as it was at the very outset.

That sameness is the pure vacancy, and that vacancy

Is really fathomless. It is like the closing of the beak

And silencing the singing of a bird. That closing and

That silencing are like the union of Heaven and Earth

At the most primordial stage of the Grand Beginning.

The union, effected as it is, might seem to indicate

The 'mysterious quality' existing early in the world's term;

It is the same as the utter submission to the Natural Course,

Which, at large, is not 'a life-and-death tissue' but Pure Existence!
