A foray into fantasy.

Poem Artwork

She looked up from the flower she was stitching,
glanced at rainbows dancing on the window pane
and her lips turned upwards in a faint fuzzy-edged smile.
The smell of freshly brewed rose tea
and fragrant jasmine butter cakes
permeated the small room
Dust fairies spun in shafts of light
and then settled on love-polished wood,
covering the smooth surfaces
with shimmering sparkles.

It was this peaceful scene that was disturbed
by the piercing cry of the meomite
He arced gracefully through the pansy blue sky
then came to land on a broken down fence nearby.
His ominous black eyes pierced into that small room
and all vestiges of peace seemed to be sucked out
in a macabre vacuum
His power fully restored, he felt invincible
but he knew the plump figure that sat quietly
humming in her rocker was a formidable foe.
She had defeated him once before
in the first clash of the Glooksparm
The only thing that kept him alive
were grim thoughts of revenge.

Teltae Macspee felt the shift
Her scalp prickled as the orispan began to whir softly in warning.
The atmosphere grew thick as gruel
and she knew he had returned.
Shloobar had predicted the final clash
before he sucked his last breath.
He warned her to be prepared
Still fear spiked along her crooked spine
and yanked at her innards with cold fingers.
"Am I too old?" she wondered.
Shloo could predict the clash
but not the outcome.

She placed the neatly stitched flower
upon the window sill,
lifted her weary body from the ancient chair,
closed the shutters and then lit the lantern.
Finally she set the dranosphere in motion
and watched as coloured sparks emerged
until they fused and became a globe of pure white light.

It always amazed her when the transformation happened.
She could hear the cracking of her vetebra
as they slipped sharply into place,
feel her legs lengthening out
and watch as her skin appeared to iron out magically.

Her work had begun...

My child, the only way you wage war with darkness is employ the force of light. Your mind is powerful. The first battle must begin there. The final battle ends there...

Mind and light; against the battleground of darkness. This could be the beginning--if not already--of a wonderful short story or novel. It reads beautifully and evidences your gift of metaphoric excellence. blessin's, good to get back to experiencing your work again Sis Chanti.
