It felt like
I was caught in the crush
of a livid ocean,
So vindictive and cruel
It stripped my hope
and dashed my body
upon the rocks.
With a repetitive churning
like a giant laundromat,
it turned me over and over.
Until... finally, limp,
I let go
And when it was calm
there was very little left
of what was there before.
And now, after all this time,
when I gaze out
over that once beaten shore
littered with driftwood
and broken shells,
I smile at the glowing gold
on the horizon, and I know...
that what was stripped
had to go.
