-- Color in Our Lives -- By John Herlihy Where would we be without color in our lives? The blue of the sky and the whiteness of jonquils. Hues of wonder from the celestial palate on high, The redness of the rose and the yellow of daffodils. The pink of carnations and the purple of those tulips Green eyes, silk brown skin, the lure of cranberry lips Color adorned the regal attire thru recorded history, The purple Roman toga and the ermine cloak of kings. The blazing color of twilight shed a perennial mystery, Those falling leaves of autumn whose color ever sings. The autumn colors suit the moods of my own design. Snow white colors of winter with darker moods align. The lush green verdure newly adorns the spring trees. The colors in a summer garden brings us to our knees. Explain to the blind the colors of the rainbow to know Just how impossible it is the wisdom of color to show. - - - - - - (c) John Herlihy 20 April 2019

If, heaven forbid, I were ever to go blind, it would be color that I missed the most. Yet, the few people I've known who were blind, or nearly blind, tell me that they have their own way of sensing color through their sense of touch. Sometimes I close my eyes and allow myself to do the same and find a whole new dimension to my appreciation of color.

It is amazing how the computer age has increased our range of ways to view color. It wasn't too long ago that all film was in shades of grey without even the coloring of sound except perhaps from a piano player in the theater. And black-and-white photos that preceded color. While color, to me, is better, there are connoisseurs out there that swear by black-and-white photos as being better than those of color.
