Slightest breath of Indian Summer caresses,
yet does not disturb guardians of your rest -
languid elms in fixed procession - softly quiet
at the Wall of the Ascension;
stately oak - showing spots of age,
sheltering steamy grass from persistent sun;
my heart - blessing your marker
with futile comfort of Autumn flowers.
The gentlest whisper of air turns my gaze
to brilliant sapphire sky –
sultry birds stream into view,
glide on unseen currents,
lift with flawless enticement
from earthly affection,
join in leisurely rapture,
soar effortlessly, serenely:
pilotless on silent wings,
companions in an ethereal dance
ascend in graceful array.
