Within a half-hour of the glorious colors of the setting sun, the rods in our retina take over from the colorful clones and give us only the blacks, grays and whites of the night. Transforming for those of us with a good night vision night into a wonderland of different slight, smells and sounds, especially during the summer when insects are in full glory and more active at night than during the day. The Luna moth, for example, easily thought of as a fairy.
Your poem reminds me of those wonderful warm nights where I enjoyed being alone and just observing, full moon or not. However, there was that one, below zero night, where I observed multicolored aurora borealis directly above, I guess something similar to what happened last week with the solar storm that led me to believe how ancients might have observed the same thing and made wonderful myths about it.
Finally, during my teen years, we had a Silverleaf Maple in our backyard. When a storm came up or in the middle of the night, those silver undersides of the leaves were very dramatic and I loved to see them.
