a new sierra morning with a new birth.

Poem Artwork

Wandering across this High Sierra
floral studded, tall grass, dewy meadow
one bright and sunny late springtime morning.
I chanced upon a young birthing mother
her colt pushing, dropping outside the blue
to gain his first gasps of new wholesome air.
Dams head turns to clean away his once world
and nudges her babe upon spindly legs.
Gangly, shaky to an unkown strange pose
cloudy eyes clearing to a bright new world.

The bright blue dulling cloudy wilting gray
fading into the earth as life begins
on this its very first of many days.
His mother rises to watch her sons start
and allow his wobbly gait find her side
under which lifes nourishment will be found.
Gangly becomes more sure with belly full
as lifes purpose now turns to play.
With this new life started on a sure shoe
I continue on a memory pure.

My hope is that it was a wild horse. Either way, you paint an enchanting picture.

Beautifully rendered. Being a climber and hiker, I feel the purity of the impressions. Might I suggest you consider replacing the multiple uses of Gangly and bright? Unrepeated words might make all the more an impact. Loved the piece.

Such a wonderfully written poem about nature's purest event. Lovely work, Budd.

Peace, love and light,
Amber
