Early Riser...(please go back to bed)

Poem Artwork

Even in the cold, his day early starts,

Banging away at the wood, natures carpenter,

Would give me a headache but fun to watch,

Wood is of his home only a small part…

Choosing carefully his wood,

On an oak or maple, never it seems a pine,

A hard worker life throughout,

Doesn’t seem for a partner does he pine,

Continues his work moving on down the line…

I just wish Mr. Woodpecker would pecker it further away,

As I am not an early riser as he is, in bed late I like to stay,

Especially on those mornings where the sky is gray,

Maybe if I find him a mate, in bed he will with her play,

Unless of course it turns out he likes guys & is gay…

Great stuff, Ed. There are still a few piliated woodpeckers around here. They need old trees so they do not appreciate "development." The photo nicely complements your verses. Thank you. Your friend from B.C., Canada,

Regis

The early bird gets the worm. And the early pecker gets the girl!

Get Up, You Lazy Bum!!

PS I hope Mr. and Mrs. Pecker have a whole bunch of little peckers this Spring, to keep you company in the mornin!

Glad you enjoy nature so much and the birds. My Tom used to watch the sparrows drinking out of the puddles in the street. He could spend hours sitting outside under that pine tree and watch them and when I came out to sit with him he'd mention that the bravest got the first drink. Nature is annoying sometimes, but it is better than a mockingbird mocking his ways. I've had them already near me and frustrating they were.
