Villanelle: The Dilemma of the Non-Violent – 17
Real power lies not in the ranks of the parties
Nor in heads of governments parties elect
Puppet-strings in hands of secret societies
Those whose claws pierce guts through nationalities
The bankers investors owners who select
Real power lies not in the ranks of parties
But in hereditary lords ethnic cronies
Those who speak for gods with violent effect
Puppet-strings in hands of secret societies
Those who allegiance owe through club affinities
Across borders oceans or lands derelict
Real power lies not in the ranks of parties
In lodges temples private media companies
Bound by rituals rites oaths sworn dead secret
Puppet-strings in hands of secret societies
For whom even to write quote such verities
Clamour of rage pounces on the hapless poet
Real power lies not in the ranks of parties
Puppet-strings in the hands of secret societies
My Lord Senor Don Ron, you amaze me not just with your fulminating words but even with a single letter, nay, even with a phoneme. Take for example this excerpt from your stalwart stance against all sorts of undermining powers:
'Certainly have yielded power all the way down to the present.' - which to my simpleton mind means the (Freemasons) have by now lost all their power. Poor Devils !
Now let's imagine the replacement of the "y" by a "w" in 'yielded' and the sentence would mean just the opposite of what you meant. You are the unchallengeably defiant magician of hermeneutics, deserving of being refered to as the MERLIN of Meaning.
King Arthur would have been proud to have included you in his Round Table of Imperishable Knights and even, I'd wager, to have replaced him 'all the way down to the present.' No mistake about that at all !!!
So true. The Freemasons are still around. Most of the founding fathers of the United States were Freemasons, said to be an offshoot of the Knights Templar. Certainly have yielded power all the way down to the present.
When invited to join the junior version of the Freemasons in high school and later, a fraternity in college, I decline both because I didn't see any value in belonging. Why I left the church in my early 20s, finding there was too much ritual and indoctrination, with two little proof that any of it was worth anything other than power mongering and social climbing.
