Now that gods got our Earth in a throttle
Will ONLY GOD intervene: that’s the rub
More the man-made gods the more the quarrel
Each faithful thinks his god’s beyond riddle
Villanelle: The Dilemma of the Non-Violent- 38
More the man-made gods the more the quarrel
Who wants to pray in a private night-club
Each faithful thinks his god’s beyond riddle
Where faithfuls gather their gods aren’t idle
Rather would they arm theirs to teeth with club
More the man-made gods the more the quarrel
Strange each nation sports some god from cradle
Nations want exclusive membership club
Each faithful thinks his god’s beyond riddle
All nations dream holding World by bridle
So they give their gods the fossil fumes rub
More the man-made gods the more the quarrel
When words from gods one another needle
Do they hesitate to reach for the club
Each faithful thinks his god’s beyond riddle
Now that gods got our Earth in a throttle
Will ONLY GOD intervene: that’s the rub
More the man-made gods the more the quarrel
Each faithful thinks his god’s beyond riddle
Hail Monseigneur Don Ron ! You do indeed excel yourself here in your comment. Firstly, what does this mean: "I want so a play by Sartre." I guess this's an understandable error perpetrated by your dictation machinery. You mean, of course: " I once saw a play by Sartre." Forgiven outright, but not the innuendo that I may have plagiarized a Sartre play. There you are guilty.
You are obviously referring to Sartre's "Le Diable et le Bon Dieu" (1951)on the Renaissance Peasant Revolt in Germany that Goethe and others (including Cervantes' "El Rufian Dichoso") have all enthused on the theme of le Bien et du Mal. That I have also done so (without having read their works) doesn't of course elevate me to their ranks for the simple reason these most fortunate writers were born in the West where the system of education (Lycée, Henri IV, Ecole Normale Supérieure, Aggrégation, etc.) was not available in the East, I'm afraid. Still as a choice victim of several Western States - with no silver spoon thrust in my mouth at birth - I have nothing to be ashamed of. Yours truly, T. Wignesan
Another poem more current than ever. I want so a play by Sartre. I seem to remember that the title was, "God Is on Our Side." The whole point of the play was that God was leading both sides and it was the same God. Your admonishment of the many gods of many religions makes the whole situation ever more complicated.
Gods do not make war except in myth. Real wars are conducted by men, with the support of women, who find religion just a healthy boost to what they know is very bad stuff.
