At what stage can karma begin the peril
Quadrupeds sans will or when bipeds sin
To what extent can there be room for free will

Villanelle: The Dilemma of the Non-Violent – 56

To what extent can there be room for free will
If what governs is the Principle Yang-Yin
Since the future can largely be told at will

Since the Yi Jing permits karma to fulfil
Good works compensate pitfalls one stumbles in
To what extent can there be room for free will

For the Principle to work there must be Evil
In living things with will embedded in the gene
Since the future can largely be told at will

At what stage can karma begin the peril
Quadrupeds sans will or when bipeds sin
To what extent can there be room for free will

Does karmic balance-sheet deduct influence ill
Parents environs victims of upbringing
Since the future can largely be told at will

None can be guilty as the mythic Devil
The game’s over what pardon when neither win
To what extent can there be room for free will
Since the future can largely be told at will

Bonjour Monseigneur Don Ron! I had already answered the point you raise on Arthur C. Clarke's postulate: the Human-Kind has only his insignificant backyard (though blessed with inordinately/infinitely bloated Ego) to populate even in our miniscule neck of the Milky-Way woods where hundreds of billions of planets can/may likewise entertain similar forms of Life as ours. It's just like US to presume our great role in the Multi-Verses!

Your insistence on reducing the population on Earth as the panacea for our belligerent ailments has very long ago been prescribed by Lao Tse's "Tao Te Ching".

Have yourself/Yourselves the usual belly-busting National Festive Day, Monseigneur! Best. Wignesan

According to Arthur C Clarke circa the 1970s, free will operating under the tension of good versus evil as demonstrated in the International Space Laboratory and other scientific exploration like on the Antarctic, humankind can continue to exponentially populate the universe indefinitely, spawning many Star Wars in the process.

On the other hand, Limits to Growth would postulate that when supply of essential ingredients for greedy bipeds decreases, tension and warfare increases. Without limiting population growth, we eventually fall into a dystopia of angry, wasteful battle or what is left.

You present an interesting concept to contemplate.

Ron
