Food for thought. A prelude to my story Wish upon a Falling Star, based on facts from amateur astronomer Douglas W. Boucher who photographed the Comet Bennett over Lake Tekapo in February 1970, as seen from Mount John, New Zealand.

 Falling Star

Twinkle, twinkle little star,
how I wonder who you are?

Are you a UFO from afar?
Alien, or just I don't know,
Shining in the dark?

Are you a rogue comet?
Coming so close to make me vomit,
on the chance of your arrival?

Are you an asteroid in a rage?
On the same orbital page,
just about to plummet?

Are you a lost satellite?
Orbiting lower with every flight.
Too soon to burn up in the night.

Are you about to supernova?
About to blow your cover?
And annihilate the Earth?

Or are you just a Hollywood icon?
Burning both ends of your life on,
the reality show called strife.

Twinkle, twinkle little star,
are you real or just a scar,
on the atmosphere of my youth?

To tell the truth, I don't know,
and as a star named Clark once said,
"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

Didn't see that coming. While working in Alaska in 1975 one night during a beautiful aurora display I thought I had witnessed a supernova and excitedly woke up my co-worker. Turns out it was the University of Fairbanks launching a rocket that detonated some sort of dye into the plasma to study it. Cool nevertheless. Patrick

Clarke or Clark, both said the right things at the right time. My love of the night sky and UFO's, of which I may have been abducted as a child, makes this written word of yours sink deeply into my heart. Thanks for posting it here for all to enjoy. The photo is tops too!

Ron,this is far better than a trekkie style observation -- it is whimsical yet offers a perspective or two that most probably would not have considered -- good to have you share the poetic side of your creativity and writing talents with us -- a star burst -- I wish you love and peace my dear friend -- Jon Michael

Ron, this one is my favorite of yours so far (but I have many more of yours I haven't read yet because I have to sleep some time). Charming, funny, clever, perceptive. I especially like "Alien, or just I don't know,/Shining in the dark?" Playful, joyous read that brought light in my face as I read it, and cherry on top with the Clark Gable line finish. Thank you ~~ Diana

Hah! You've been missed, but you are back with vim I would chance to say. I concur with that other star Gable, I don't give a rats-ass either.
