It makes you wonder what will be the future if the global population keeps on growing.
I bought a series of Vermeer prints from the state art centre. You should be able to do the same. I've read quite a bit about Vermeer.

The captains of this world live in big bubbles of greed and decay, pushing their crews to the limit. As the crews live in their smaller bubbles of survival and gain, trying to survive best they know while their fellow humans and the Earth unable to keep up starve for a small bit of compassion. The media bombard us with stories of horror, greed and destruction as all sit in private little bubbles watching and wanting to help momentarily, not realizing that we as humans are beginning to lose the ability to feel anything on the "outside". The whole world is hanging in crisis! May more Poets and writers move the world forward with compassion, insight and hope!

I very much agree with the sentiments expressed in this poem. Thank you Ron for standing up to the vested interests, through poetry, that currently attempt to impede real action on these most fundamental of species and inter species issues. We need more poets and writers prepared to speak the truth the impartial scientists are speaking, though in our case via metaphor, and more poets too, who are willing to combat propaganda. Stay fearless!

This is a great poem! I've always been adverse to poetry that doesn't have a rhyme and rhythm to it. It is in the struggle to shape and mould words that artistry and emotional expression come to the fore. In Ron Hull's poems, we have a very good example.

jude forese has come close to stealing my thunder - that will teach me to not wait so long before I review work - man is certainly doing great harm to the earth's ecology and even more harm to every living thing on earth - I believe beyond doubt that earth will survive, all of its living inhabitants may vanish due to our ignorance and greed -how do we effectively halt South American Indians from burning the rain forests to plant food crops for survival? - who will step forward with a mandate to halt all forms of mining? - who will demand no farmer is permitted to use irrigation to make his crops grow? - who will effectively convince the world's fisherman that they must not take every fish their nets can haul in - I ask, who will change the mindset that says, I am going to have mine, let future generations worry about how they will survive - a degree of this calamity can be attributed to the world's elite power brokers, but certainly not all as each and everyone of us is responsible for the greed that destroys earth's resources and adversely impacts evey living creature - it is the preeminent conundrum to end all

My city Hyderabad Sindh Pakistan deserves an observer/poet like Mr Ronald W. Hull. The poem is a wake up call.

Outstanding commentary in poetic form, Ron...it's environmental/science poetry like this ripe for the K-12 graduating to college classrooms across the globe...teaching the ideas as a community enlightens the masses. This piece would make a great lecture on our earth and its sustainability and protecting our resources maintaining the conditions on which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony.

Our Earth has always been adaptable, Ron. Being here for billions of years...change is inevitable. From the dinasaurs to the ice age and beyond. It is ever changing and man will be gone long before the Earth.

Writing's on the wall and no mistake, Ron. Those who are in denial probably inhabit very small time frames in terms of who or what they care about. Love all the comment below and, as EdK says, it's just a question of maths and demand on resources at the end of the day - which, in the hands of the corporate superpowers who are plotting together to stitch up the global humanity, is a very dangerous thing. Thank God also for the rise of People Power through on-line pressure and lobbying groups that is doing more these days to expose this and to let those tyrants know that they are being hounded and watched so that, at the very least, we can seek to redress some balance. But too little too late... I guess time (however much or little we have left) will tell... Love that you're such an agent provocateur! xx

The signs are very clear on land, sea, and sky,
Yet, we continue to grow and we continue to deny.

All one has to do is open one's eyes and look around these very sad days, yet so many continue to deny, especially most of our so called 'leaders.'

I also sady disagree with those below who say that we can't possibly kill this planet. I'm afraid it's sadly a simple case of math and finite resources. When I was born there were about 2.5 billion humans on this planet. We've already topped 7 billion, and most predict that we'll hit a whopping 10 billion before too long.

And as we continue to consume, and destroy, and very stubbornly refuse to give up fossil fuel usage, we're killing everything in our path. If the Earth somehow does survive us, it will simply not be the same planet that it once gloriously was.

never too late ... mother earth has a great sense of resilience and capacity to reestablish itself ... silly humans can never destroy earth even with all its bombs and carbon gases ... yes, we may annihilate ourselves and maybe that's not such a bad idea ... those who survive can rebuild a new world ... until we evolve will still encompass the lower manas ... this poem is a great propaganda piece ...

I agree with George Carlin when he talks about this earth saying it will always be O.K.. It will shake us off like a bunch of fleas if need be. (like the parasites we are)

There will always be those who refuse or choose to ignore (pick your action verb) facts and stand ready to spew their objection for the truths being aired. After all, getting real oxygen in their lungs is counterintuitive to their addictions to poisonous lies and oligarchy positions and goals masquerading as democracy. And yes, regardless of your political leanings, it very well might be too late.
