Oceans Away!

Out of sight, out of mind. The oceans are thought to be endless and impervious to our behavior. Aside from the obvious affects of all of our trash and spills eventually ending up in the sea; unseen seawater warming, increased acidification, and freshwater runoff from major ice shelves pose the greatest danger to all life in the seas.

Oceans Away!

Sharks are chummily dying for shark fin soup,
Groupers are groping where no groupers group.

Seals are swimming smilingly in slimy sea oils,
Manatees bear battle scars after boat motor foils.

Whales are happy wearing fashionable fishnets,
Sushi sliced blue tuna is as gauche as it gets.

Turtles in teds tread sandy shores without tears.
Polar bears swim nyads chasing disappearing ice fears.

Albatrosses feast on colorful plastic floating toys.
Mercury rises from flora into fishes’ biggest boys.

Live crabs love living in vending machines rude.
Caged lobsters turn red from hot tubbing nude.

Fukushima spews its ghastly radioactive surprise,
so oceans away the glow will once again arise.

Farm fed fresh salmon are fat finned and sassy.
Their wild run cousins are skinny and not classy.

So, dump your garbage into the endless sea,
dilution is the solution and it will always be.

Oceans away!  Go away!  Begone!
You know we don’t need you,
so please, don’t take so long.

Yes, we need to appreciate our surroundings more, the ocean and wherever we reside or go to and don't leave trash behind. Would make a more beautiful place

The enviornmental people will love this one Ron! I like the way you made the awareness of polution to the seas a visual loss to mankind.

I hope we don't destroy much more of it ...I really like shrimp scampi and fried mahi mahi....

You are terrific my friend!

This immediately brought that picture of the humongous floating island of trash. It is surprising how much trash goes into our oceans and poisoning our own food supply as well as killing off or maiming the innocent animals that come across it. Excellent rhyme scheme, Ron...you do this so well.

With all the trash and toxic waste that we dump in Earth's oceans today, it's amazing that any sea life still exists at all, and I sadly doubt that we will stop until there truly is nothing left of its once magnificent life forms.

outstanding wtire Ron
I've seen at first hand the damge done
a beached carcass of an elegant sea creature
the sea turtle pail of it magnificient hues
unrecognizable but its beack still cluching
a large garbage bag......
Peace be with you

as humorous as your take is on this , it's all very true and not funny, and i'm glad you wrote about it. It is one of the most unknown damages being done, in terms of it's vastness and far reaching affects.

A most apt and timely write, Ron; and a very sad commentary on Earthian's lack of custodial respect for our world. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

A cynical view of man's ignorance that transcends just stating the facts. You've styled a message that every man, woman and child needs to read and ponder. Excellent.

Could not say it better than you my friend... you've put rhythm and rhyme to a catastrophe that has neither, and you've added a dash or two of grim black humour besides to strengthen the satire and irony. Masterfully composed, cleverly crafted and expertly executed, my friend.

To Edward: You've spun a fine parody my eight-legged friend!! The Psalmist must be amused looking down from his lofty perch... a graft from the branch of David. Deadly sharp wit as usual.

The EARTH is my trash can; I shall not want.
It maketh me to lie down in dead pastures: it leadeth me beside the poisoned waters.
It dissolveth my soul: it leadeth me in the paths of hellishness for its own sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no new evil: for old evils stays with me; thy stench and thy rot they sicken me.
Thou preparest a cesspool before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with slime; my cup sloppeth over.
Surely vultures and predators shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will hide in the house of the damned for ever.

Everyone has their antennae geared for what they perceive is wrong in this world of ours, I respect most peoples ideas, even if I fail to believe in them myself. I know we pollute the earth and the seas with our trash, what I don't know is how much of the gloom and doom I believe.

Yes, you'd be surprised at the amount of refuse I have found in my beach walks...I usually just try to carry a plastic bad with me when I hike, to pick up what I can and deposit it where it should have been deposited in the first place...I enjoyed this one, Ron, as I do most others you post...e
