The peak of summer always brings back fond memories of hot days in the sun, everything growing, and fun.

 July

Picnic in the park,
until way after dark,
the smell of smoke in the air,
campfire laughter to the last spark.

Afloat on the water,
sun dancing off waves,
soaking in sunshine,
on these warmest of days.

Girls in bikinis,
a sight for sore eyes,
boys playing games,
showing off being guys.

Too much fun in the sun,
skin turning bright red.
can't sleep all night,
nightmares of hot dread.

A line in the water,
waiting for a nibble.
To catch a nice fish,
for the dinner table.

The corn is knee-high,
and the tomatoes near ripe,
berries are for picking,
green apples if you like.

In the middle of one of those,
hottest of the muggy days,
a storm will suddenly appear,
in the west, lightning displays.

A wall of white clouds,
followed by solid black,
the storm front rolls in,
like a freight train on track.

Everyone scrambles for cover,
with the wind on our back.
Heavy rain soon follows,
under shelter or shack.

The downpour turns to dribbles,
there is a cool tang in the air,
a rainbow appears in the east,
announcing the all clear.

"a rainbow appears in the east
announcing the all clear", a lovely poem! Yet it's funny how a rainbow always has an announcement to give out! We may need to start looking up, Ron! Blessings!

Beautiful description of July Ron. The slender vase shape of the poem is a bonus. Keep writing.

Fond memories indeed, of those Good Old Days, when people still appreciated the simple pleasures of life.

We so easily forget the simple rewards of summer. Thank you for this. I need some simplicity of living at times, as you know.

Being a former redhead I can attest to red skin and the all night torture of sand in a sleeping bag. I still like girls in bikinis. Patrick

I guess I was lucky re the hot sun and the skin...as a beach boy I never suffered from the suns attack, as my tan came in increments as every day I was in the ocean or playing on the beach...t-storms were great where I was too as I used to wait till they passed and got out to sea and then walked along the edge of the ocean as lightening hit the water and sent little electrical charges up through my body...e

Oh! you've put it so nicely...July/August...European school
holiday days lasted really long...enough time to lie on
the back...studying the "trees aura"...clouds formations
and painting out the animals they resembled...At the night
looking up at the constellation...and picking out the stars
...and in mind travelling to the far...far side of universe...
sky never the limit!...Ah! what a joy of imagination!
Thank you Ron for bringing the Summer back to the Earth.

Happy Fourth of July!

Makes me remember my childhood days. Lazy summer afternoons. Times flies by so fast. Enjoy these days while they last, old man winter will soon return. Loved this Mr. Hull!

The flower child in you is coming out...
and it's about time!
Otherwise we might have to wash your crusty old soul in turpentine.

Yep. Recall each and every verse, especially the one where the sun stayed on the skin much, much too long.
