Poem Artwork

Cattle Egret Rookery in my neighborhood in 2007.

Now the site of an assisted living high-rise building.

White Birds

Why are some birds so white?

Surely not to be seen in the night.

Silhouetted against the blue sky,

or in lush green vegetation,

to catch the eye.

Nature made all creatures,

large and small, blend with their surroundings,

summer and fall, for their own safety.

Why white, at all?

Only in the snow of winter,

are white feathers of use;

hence the snowy owl and snow goose.

But what of the swan, egret, ibis, and dove?

What purpose do they have?

It must be for the poet's pen, peace and love.

When a poet digs into the archives, it's amazing what he/she finds. An amazing, beautiful poem we would not otherwise have seen if not reposted.

Birds have their own compelling beauty and each one is unique like us in their own way! Trust me Ronald they are a lot like us in their ways and habits! I have been feeding birds for seventy years. I compliment you on your description and landscape!

The Lord have created all creatures - big and small: white, black, and colorful, each carries its unique quality. No birds are wasted no matter what color they come in.

God does not make anything wasteful. When God makes them, each has a purpose in its life. You would know it if you were a bird too.

I am always sad to see habitat taken away. This is a beautiful poem.
Cannot birds just BE - for the beauty of them in the sky or on a limb?

But what of the swan, egret, ibis, and dove?
What purpose do they have?

God made them to please man, but man is becoming greedy and uncaring. OH,my -

Ron....Great poem....Having lived on a river in Virginia, I saw plenty of Swan's Egret's & Ibis....But then the Lord knew what he was doing when he created 4 legged & flying creatures....
