Power and money have transformed our beautiful blue planet into something they want for their purposes of conquest and fame. The natural world has been diminished to the point where it can no longer sustain our excess. No one is safe from the aftermath.

Argument for the Petrochemical Industry Courtesy the Houston Chronicle Upside Down World Few places still remain, originally primitive and wild. We have effectively terraformed, to human productive and mild. But what was lost in the process, while taking all the natural spoils? Water purification process for one, land polluted with chemicals and oils. Mass production and mass consumption, have become the operating economic rules. While rich get richer, poor get poorer, as the powerful flex their muscular tools. Use their power to manipulate: the church with moral tenets, leaders with conquest goals and CEOs with monetary intents. A military-industrial complex evolved, creating tension throughout the world. Making threats evermore dangerous, almost every citizen feeling imperiled. Power and money now dominate, an unnatural order looking bleak. Where billions suffer under the thumb, our world comes closer to the brink. Scientists call out their warnings, to politicians and bosses that yawn, our world slips closer to oblivion, until it's too late and we are all gone. Copyright 2023 © Ronald W. Sometimes I wonder if I am the only person anywhere that understood the lessons Nature was trying to teach us when the world closed down during the pandemic. While everyone else was hunkering down and hoarding toilet paper, I was glued to the stories of Nature beginning to take itself back. I remember asking people if they understood what all that meant? They would just shrug, uncaring, and carry on as they were doing. Everyone else was chewing at the bit waiting for things to get back to "normal" while I was hoping it wouldn't.

Stark, harsh, and real truths, Ron. I remember walking in a parade with a banner to raise awareness about environmental degradation and pollution in 1970, the year I graduated from high school. I had a bad feeling about the way things were going back then. Thank you, Ron.

what have we done to our beautiful world. You are wise to call attention to what remains of it Ron, I pray we learn to plant a seed rather than destroy the last of the ancient gardens, our forefathers left us,:)

We keep taking things out from inside the earth and then keep wondering why there are so many sinkholes and volcano eruptions. Oh, at some point in time, this balloon is going to burst when we keep digging for things that are inside of it. The greed of the humans is neverending. Each country tries to outdo the others and claim heroism and wealth. There's no end to human greed.

Many call out their warnings...yet humans decide every day what part each will play, no matter the title or role. Oblivion would be easy...it's the next generations' living with the consequences of our actions that speak to our ever-growing dilemma.

Fifty-five years ago, when I lived in Chicago, Bob Hope's big gag was speaking of Los Angeles smog. Which, of course he spoke of automobile exhaust.

So here I am, living in the same general area, Mr. Hope joked about, and much of what he spoke is gone. And much in the civilized planet has changed... For the better? For the worse? or about the same.

Sorry to say, but as our smog and worse is man made, and will always remain so, so when the wind blows, blowing the smog onto the ocean, breath deeply and be thankful for what we have.

I deeply know Ron...There has always been ruling elite. Many not all everyday Joe's have become complicit, lazy in their compassion and care for the tender life of our fragile planet....

One can only hope those that truly need to read this, do so. Perhaps such in need will respond with alacrity of mind, but one could argue that some behaviors in life are so far corrupted that there is no consciousness great enough to reach them. I never get tired of being reminded of what is, what was, and hopefully, what might prove my cynicism wrong. Great write, Ron.
