The Gingerbread Man Parade
by Kathryn Elizabeth (Katie) Madara
Out of the Gingerbread houses,
Gingerbread boys and girls.
All dressed up in their favorite icing blouses,
and the girls dressed in pretty red and green gumdrop pearls.
The gingerbread band gets ready,
with their candy cane saxaphones;
yet some have to hold steady,
because of their chocolate-covered trombones.
Now here come the soldiers marching one by one,
With their tiny, gumball bullets shot by their cinnamon stick guns.
Then the fire trucks drove past,
with their red licorice hoses.
The clowns were a blast,
with their delicious bright cherry noses.
Everyone knew that Christmas was near,
because The Gingerbread Man Parade was here.
This is a wonderfully talented and creative poem for a sixth grader. Tell her for me that she has geat writing skills and imagination and she even mastered a pretty good poetic meter--even I still mess that up!!
Merry Christmas!!
