Since the weather refuses to stop raining, my thoughts have been only of water lately........

Poem Artwork

                         Down by the pier.......

Stand at the shoreline, warm sand at my feet,
overcast, hazy, a slight breeze makes it right.
Sound of a seagull's lonely faint cry,
sun will soon be high burning bright.

Off in the distance a rhythmic motion,
a school of Dolphins heading for shore.
Together they ride the waves with such ease,
skirting back and forth, a pleasure for sure.

Sleek and slender they slice through waves,
jumping, diving, how well they all flourished.
One of God's creatures displaying their best,
feast your eyes, let your mind be nourished.

Gentle breeze moving in along with the tide,
pelicans lurking down by the pier.
Patiently waiting, no need to hurry,
cornucopia of plenty, no need to fear.

Movement of the tide rolling quietly in,
carries life giving sustenance to all in need.
High among the clouds, seagulls gather,
for just the right moment to choose their feed.

Dolphins silently pace back and forth,
along the shoreline squawking their squawk.
Do you ever wonder what they would say,
hearing us talk and watching us walk?

Now the brown beaked pelicans take flight,
soaring high, diving head first, into the water.
Wings flapping, swirling, take off for the air,
such flair, such grace they never falter.

Time is passing, they must all move on,
before it gets dark they push out to sea.
Another day, another time when fate allows,
spend time with my friends and they me.

I think the dolphins would be grateful not to shoulder the responsibility we're currently mismanaging. Another peaceful, ocean write, Karen. Hugs,

reminds me of my old "Sunglo Pier" in Daytona - I see you're a beach lover. so when are all the "Water" & ocean poems going to be collected together into a book with your husbands photos? Then I can relax with them. I always seem to be in a hurry online (I can only get phone modem and the fees are high) tomorrow I'll read more.

Thank you for a lovely view of your pier, your Dolphins and Pelicans, Karen. If this is the result of too much rain ... then: let it rain, let it rain, let it rain ;-)
Nitpick: last line 'spend time with my friends and they me' shouldn't that be ... and they WITH me?
Sunny regards,
Deborah

Amazing the lif under the waves that so many of us simply don't think about. I wonder about it all the time. The whales, the bazillion different species of fish and on and on. Loved this poem Karen, very relaxing!

Mmmmmmmmmmm... B E A U T I F U L.... This soothes my sea-soul, Karen... I have been cooped up for days and haven't yet SEEN my beloved stretch of coastline since I arrived on Sunday... but this fills that space in my head and heart... Gorgeous images and simply sublime atmosphere. Peaceful and holistic. Dolphins AND pelicans... two of natures most fascinating... Lucky you!! :)) TY Kate xx

Watching the waves play..here on my pier in the evening
My favorite ....strangers furling their faces in intense concentration over their sinkers and lures
A breeze ambles by...and time doesn't matter
A little while longer ..watching the waves play a deepening medley'
of purple and red eyes linger now and then
On a sky that's gently folding .
The show..a letter put in its envelope to be read again tomorrow

Lovely thoughts, lovingly expressed. Plus you chose a great way to illustrate your piece. Left us with visions of lying on a beach, watching dolphins and pelicans demonstrate that life does indeed go on. With energy, hope, and faith!! T h a n k . y o u ! 'Pea' xOx

I read it and make me feel like I was lulling on a hammock under the baleful eye of a perched pelican undecided between catching a fish or going away disturbed by my slow swinging.
The sound of the waves didn't help me to stay focused...or awake.
A beautiful cadence, a marvellous poem.

Well, that is a very lovely stimulating write, a pleasure to read. The photo is nice too, and in fact it is so like the pier or piers that we have off of our coast here. They make an excellent fishing spot, or in the summer, everyone gets underneath, as the sun here just fries yer hide LOL.
And, plent of seagulls n Pelicans...I loved this
ty Grace and peace be with you
