Slowly,
O so slowly,
The trees begin
To prepare
For slumber,
Their leaves
Turning
To gold,
To red,
To rusty orange,
Hints of color
At first,
Then,
As the weeks pass,
Growing more
And more vibrant,
Until it seems
They explode
With a silent scream
Of denial
Against
The approaching
Winter.
