I do not begrudge the earth
It's rain
But after many days
Of wet
I am glad
To see the sun
Shining bright
In a clear sky.
The air is clean
And sweet,
And I breathe it in
With unequalled pleasure,
Glad there is no one nearby
To spoil the moment
With their cigarette.
Now that the holidays
Are past
I am on the hunt
For the first daffodils.
Already they are appearing
In the florists shops
And grocery stores,
But it's the wild ones
That bring me
The most joy.
So I enjoy this break
In the winter weather
And I wait,
Sometimes patiently,
Sometimes not,
For the first harbingers
Of spring.
