I see him Several times Each day, A tiny, feathered jewel Hovering gracefully As he sips The ruby red nectar From the bright yellow petals At the bottom Of the feeder. He seems to float, His wings beating So rapidly As to be invisible, And his flitting movements, Back, forth, and sideways, Are a study In avian grace. What a marvel he is! How fast, I wonder, Must his tiny heart beat To provide enough power To fuel such a dynamo?

Some time ago I wrote a poem with the same title. Like you, I sure love those little dynamos and welcome them every fall and spring when they come by to sample my lantana and cr�pe myrtle.
