Late one summer’s night

As I sat

Comfortable

And relaxed

Within the plush

Embrace

Of my recliner,

With my interest

Wholly focused

Upon my favorite

Television show,

And my mind free of

The day’s concerns,

A flash suddenly caught

The corner of

My eye

And drew my attention

To the darkness beyond

The picture window.

I stared, transfixed,

The television forgotten,

As I watched

A brilliant ball

Of cosmic fire

Descend from above

The nearby mountain,

Trailing a shimmering tail

Like a parade

Of Independence Day

Sparklers.

In a moment

It was gone, and

Regardless of whether

It disappeared

Behind the trees

Or if it burned itself out

High above the earth,

I was left in awe

Of the most unexpected

Spectacle.

Then, I remembered,

Darn!

I should have thought

To make a wish!
