The forest about me
Is dark and
Primeval,
Filled with every kind
Of non human life.
Birds call from the branches
Of centuries old trees,
Somewhere nearby
A brook babbles cheerfully;
I see a flash of...something
As it disappears into the
Underbrush;
Yet for all that I
Am the alien here
I am not afraid,
I know I should be,
But some deep and
Savage part of me is
At home in this wildness,
Is soothed by it,
And so I walk
Quietly,
Respectfully,
Taking my place
Within it.

Indeed, we are a part of nature, and while it may feel alien to us when we are deep within its presence, it also touches something deep within us, what we call human nature. Lovely poem, homecoming indeed.
