I see him
Several times
Each day,
A tiny, feathered jewel
Hovering gracefully
As he sips
The ruby red nectar
From the bright yellow petals
At the bottom
Of the feeder.
He seems to float,
His wings beating
So rapidly
As to be invisible,
And his flitting movements,
Back, forth, and sideways,
Are a study
In avian grace.
What a marvel he is!
How fast, I wonder,
Must his tiny heart beat
To provide enough power
To fuel such a dynamo?
Your poem describes so well the amazing abilities of a hummingbird that are dazzling in so many respects. I see that you wrote this poem in 2013. I seem to have written one with the same title in the past, but I can't find it. Maybe I was just remembering reading your ball back then?
