There Were Leaves The Palest Green
A black duck bobbed underneath the water
Vanishing from all visible sight
Then reappears again above the water
Had he earned a prize in delight
The dragonflies circled round
In silence without single sound
Cabbage trees littered the banks
Surround by the native flax
A murky surface had appeared
And yet the black duck disappeared
Rustic leaves shimmered bright
Among the twigs adrift in steady sight
I heard footsteps among the fallen leaves
As rustling echoed in the trees
Breezes blow softly from above
Unresting sediment came thereof
A black bird fanned beneath the shade
Nestled from the heat of day
As I watch the ducks at play
I was lost in disarray
As I watched the knotted limbs upon a tree
I noticed how rough the surface seemed to be
Etching out in a new direction
Had it noticed imperfections
There were leaves the palest green
As if they were painted in a sense
And flowers blossomed safe from sight
Nestled shadows sheltered light
As boulders peered above the river
I wondered if they ever shivered
As giant ferns peered over head
I was curious how they felt instead
