She's at it again - my twisted Muse hands me another project that's due one hour from now - I do not mean any disrespect ... but what comes easily to her doesn't mean it's easy for me - she was born into metered rhyme and speaks in fluent poetry . Me, I have to cheat using a rhyming dictionary as well as a Thesaurus ; writing for me is a journey into hell - what if no one likes what I have written and tells me to lay my pen down and walk away from it forever ? I think I would die if I couldn't write - but these tasks that my Muse assigns as homework are getting the best of me , and I am wondering where the perks are ... but like any good student , I turn in my paper and hope for a passing grade ... I feel like I'm walking a narrow tightrope waiting for her approval . I can't wait for summer vacation because I've discovered writing is a hard, hard occupation!!
Wow! your muse sounds like one of my old grade school teachers - Sister Mary Mean - she was really tough, too. So, when I got a little older, I traded that muse in for Bullwinkle Moose - he's very easy to get along with!
Too damn right, Karla, and the Muse is never satisfied, eh?! But don't we love her, just the same - even though she is such a hard taskmaster. But, know what?! She only ever pesters those who do her justice, and in whom she trusts and who she KNOWS for sure will make full use of her gifts and understanding - THEN she is generous beyond measure... now, let me see... who among us is just a never-failing stream - words and poems-speaking... ah, yes!! Writing is something we do, easy of difficult depends upon the day or the subject that is delivered to us, I suppose. Why did I ever start, why will I never choose to stop? I think the only reward that we can ever truly expect is self satisfaction in that one poem that we write that speaks back to us.

Another A+ here. It is funny that you write this, Karla. I can tell you a story. In 1994, as a 7th grader, I was given a school assignment. That assignment was to write a poem and I literally threw a temper tantrum over it. I shouted, "A poem... A POEM... I can't write a poem. This is the dumbest assignment I've heard." Well, I wrote the poem for the assignment. Then, I wrote another and another and another until now, sitting in 2005, I have written over 400 poems, published 2 books, had articles, stories and poems published in journals, newspapers, etc. and have had poems read on major market radio. I'm a firm believer that we never truly know what we're 'meant' to do, until it hits us... sometimes in the form of temper tantrums! So, my advice to you, stomp, snort, kick and scream and then, let it out on a piece of paper. You'll feel much better!

Yes I have never studied writing in a formal education setting but I cannot imagine what it must be like to have someone expect you to write on demand. However you seem to always answer to the call so wonderfully.
This is very true karla, and I aecho Jerry in saying that writing is not easy, or everyone would be doing it, be everyone writes something each day tho. I have trouble at times too when my muse assigns me a task, but that goes with the territory tho. Thnx for sharing sis, this is very well thought out, and very well constructed.
