Work's going fine; this just came to me. :)

Poem Artwork

The last vestiges of sunlight
tuck themselves into the west,
their shift is over;
time for bed.

Celestial bodies in the sky
ogle with unblinking eyes,
ever on alert,
time to work.

Here I am, staring at the moon,
tossing and turning, trying
to get some shuteye
between shifts.

It's hopeless; my brain won't shut off;
I can't sleep, so I get up
and get ready for
the next shift.

I go to work, and boost myself
with cups of coffee, yawning,
hoping the end of
my shift will

     come
                soon.

Oh dear, sometimes unaccustomed work shifts can mess with your mind and your body! LOL! Good poem, Karla. Hang in there!

Hi Karla:

Great poem. It reminds me of when I worked a rotating shift. Once you've done that for a few years, you sleep anywhere and any time.

Know the feeling all too well, and you pen it very well, Karla. And I always drank much too much coffee!

I know this feeling all too well and I know what a bitch it is when the tiredness of the day refuses to cede to the activness of the mind. Well said Karla.

I never cared for split shifts, they just wiped me out. I have never been one to be able to nap, so I was always struggling to stay awake on the second shift. The only good thing about splits is that you get to work the rush hours which often means the best tips. Nice work, just another day in the life, eh? We tread on hoping for something to break the rut.
Take care,
Sherry

It can be a long endless night sometimes, the trick is to keep our minds and bodies occupied in a positive way !
Your pen is flowing in spontaneity and creativity like never before Karla, and you are certainly lighting up the path for the rest !
Blessings
Peter
