... making locals nervous with talk of baseballs and tornadic hooks. ....

Poem Artwork

When stormclouds poke their heads over
the horizon, a strange phenomenon occurs:
a Chaser Convergence.  Eyes glued to the
latest severe weather outlooks and radar
screens, they chirp excitedly over the
possibility it could happen, making locals
nervous with talk of baseballs and tornadic
hooks.  They flock together on the roads
crisscrossing the Plains; you can tell them
by their hail-dented plumage.  And there
they sit, biding their time, waiting for just
the right moment to take wing after the
perfect storm:  don't mind seeing them,
just don't want to see them in my backyard!

(c) 2009, Karla Dorman (2/2)

there is some terrific imagery and humor in your work Karla -- and what a perfect match of the photograph and your poetic artistry -- much love and peace my dear friend -- JMW

Always wonder, are these people nuts?
At any rate, IMHO, as being in a tornado is one of my standard nightmares--probably from my Ohio childhood and a Kansan Daddy, who had some true life horrors to recount.

Why do I feel guilty feeling cold in Florida with 48 degree temps? But, hon, I'm COLD! Your poem just makes glad it isn't worse that what it is! Hugs, Kathy

Well as the snow continues to fall here and we are expecting another ten inches before it is over with a Northeaster and high winds on top of it...I wish I could send this to someone elses back yard

It will be the day when I can see a storm-chaser going after one with one of those butterfly-nets.
I prefer the storm-spinners better.

Chaser Convergence could also be the name of a stiff drink...goin' up to the bar and orderin' a "STORMSPINNER"!!!! Whiskey then a STORMSPINNER!!! Give us the recipe, Karla...and we'll put it in a cocktail shaker...Cruise's Cocktail and Coyote Ugly, hail the weather poet-queen Dorman! Now get down off that bar and dance us up a STORMSPINNER! WahOOOOOOOOOOOOO....

It's that adrenaline thing. I once sat through a tornado in my car. I managed to get it on the leeward side of a building, after getting pelted with a ton of debris. I was very happy to be safe when the cloud passed, but, I can tell you... that adrenaline was quite a rush. ~ Sara

Great poem, Karla! My favorite line:

"You can tell them by their hail-dented plumage" LOL Wonder how much $$ they spend repairing their chase vehicles?? Hmm. Somethin' to think about! LOL Glad we stay where it's (relatively) safe! Very well done; brava! Love the piccy!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your chase (?) partner, your twin, Karen Lynn. :D LOL
