Poem Artwork

Driving North from Atlanta you begin to see,
A hint of what the sight will be.
A golden Poplar here, a giant Oak just beginning to change.
Following I-85 you turn onto I-985.
Traffic thickens up a bit,
People converge from everywhere.
As further north your car does sail,
I wish that guy would get off my tail.

Driving toward the sights to come,
Makes your life behind seem glum.
Buford brings a bit more color,
As the hills begin to roll upon each other.
On you drive with anticipation,
Of the annual sight beheld,
By the ancient Cherokee Nation.

Gainseville comes a bit to slow,
Cause just beyond there's a grade you know.
When it you top you know you'll see,
The peaks of mountains how close you'll be.
Colors of Fall begin to abound,
Natures beauty all around.

Now you are in Habersham,
Your heart soars as your eyes take in a sight.
Oh so different from last night.
The little winery on the left has closed,
And moved to Helen, where more traffic goes.

But that's ok becasue you sees,
Oh bountiful hills and God, those trees.
A turn to the left will you take,
Where apple cider they do make.
You'll cross a bridge that has no name,
But to the river beneath it,
Sydney Lanier brought some fame.

The colors fill up all your senses,
Leaving your spirit with no defenses.
Take a break at "Mark of the Potter,"
To feed giant Trout and chat a while,
With tourists who always wear a smile.
Away from here I had to roam,
But I'll always call the mountains, "Home."

I don't like drivers, up my tail either, what a nasty bother!
Enjoy! Your views, you lucky fool!

A lucky man knows where he is from and in what direction he is heading and as for that guy behind you, just slow down and he will be forced to pass, probably from NJ, we are all lousy drivers...Ed

You took us there, Walt, in beautifully imaged lines: thanks for the vacation! Trying to send you some rain, but my aim is bad (no wonder I never was good at baseball). 'Course, we need rain to send it...had it all last week, this week, nary a drop.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Beautiful travel poem. You paint a lovely picture of sights along the way.

"Colors of Fall begin to abound,
Natures beauty all around."

That picture surely reflects what you've written.

Mountains peaks are frozen forever stormy waves which will change color with every rainbow touching them.
I was with you for a little while, I lost you in Habersham, it wasn't on my way.
Good journey though...

Wow, Walt. I lived in Vermont for about four years. When the trees peaked I knew it was gift from God because no one else could paint such overwhelming sights. You saw it too in another area, proving He shares with us all. Love the poem.

Wow Walt! You took me there and even to The mark of the Potter, one of my favorite places. Some of those trophy rainbows must weigh 45 pounds. The colors...please send me some leaves and a t-shirt from the Potter with their signature rainbow trout on the front. I do miss that part of north Georgia and....the Sogue River with the fjord. Guess it may've dried out a bit though.

Great visuals.
Love,
Susan...I go up 441 for the more rolling hills full of colors then head over from there.
