Lake

Lake
 

A north wind creates their power,
Crashing them a' shore,
Smoothing rocks edge of each hour.

Minnows racing waves to-and-fro,
Keeping a close guard,
As a hungry loon dives below.

Otters belly slide over swells,
Playing in rhythm,
Keeping time as orchestral bells.

An eagle's eye watches closely,
Flies with the current,
Hunting to catch a fish mostly.

Sparkling diamonds are collected,
As the sun settles,
Shades of pink hue are reflected.

Winds disappear into the night,
Lake of solitude,
Beneath the stars and full moonlight.

I love the style and serene sentiments in this poem, Christine. Utterly and profoundly beautiful. You take us to Minnesota's 10,000 lakes through these vividly descriptive words. The lakes are stress relief at their finest, I'm sure.

Very relaxing images, peaceful. I'm not familiar with the 8-5-8 format. Do I need to go look up a name or was it just natural with these words? I very much enjoyed reading.

So beautiful and descriptive a poem. Make me think of my daughter and husband this week going on a motorcycle trip with friends to Finger Lakes in NY. They are supposed to be scenic too and hope she enjoys nature just as much as you told us about here.

My home town Dartmouth (in Nova Scotia) is called the city of lakes and rightly so, but we are also surrounded by the ocean so I feel I have the best of both worlds. This picture you painted is perfect though Christine and if it doesn't stir the heart of a romantic...nothing will.
