A very good questions .... when did religious holydays become days based on how much you spent -- now that even goes to Easter as parents try to compete with the biggest Easter basket. Are we just noticing this because we are getting older .... or was it there for us all along? Susan

Powerful write. Unfortunately the world is trying and winning at taking the 'Christ' out of Christmas, for example people try to be 'politically correct' and say "Happy Holidays" instead. Thank goodness we the followers of Christ will always remember.

Isn't it sad when people settle for paying for that which is temporal instead of accepting that free gift which is eternal.
It is such a difficult time for most, and yet we do it every year, with the same results. Only the cash register sings, til it is time to pay out; when the taxman surely cometh.

Its a shame mankind has lost the true concept
of the meaning of Christmas.
It was meant to celebrate the birth of christ.
Now its all about greed, not only on the merchants behalf
but on the way we raised our children,
Just lok around and see for yourselves, ask any kid what he/she wants and you will see my meaning.

I much preferred those good old days, and my old fashioned Christmas's as a child, when homemade gifts were wonderful, and most of us still remembered the true meaning of Christmas.

I cannot agree more and can't stand to see Christmas's real meaning getting drawn away-and the ones that dont want people to say it???? Don't get me started, lol.

Mary, people who say "Season's Greetings" have other religions. Not everyone believe in Jesus. Say for instance, the Jewish Christmas falls on different date in the calendar. so instead of saying Merry Christmas to them when it's not their Christmas yet, some choose to say "Season's Greetings", it is NOT a matter of disrespect, it's a matter of bearing the importance of other's religion in mind and yet you want them to celebrate our Christmas at the same time, so we just say "Season's Greetings" to these folks. But no one would take offense to that since everyone is in the Christmas spirit regardless of what religion you're in. Christmas is universal, but it falls on different date for different folks.

Like the Chinese New Year does not fall on January 1, but we celebrate that day just the same.
