D DOING, ALWAYS BUSY
A ACTION, GETTING THINGS DONE
D DEAR, ALWAYS DEAR TO HIS FAMILY
D DEAR, WE WERE DEAR TO HIM
Y YELPING, LAUGHING, CHUCKLING,

SUPPERTIME WAS FILLED WITH STORIES
AND LAUGHTER, AND HAPPY TIMES

NEVER TAKE A PLATE AND SIT BEFORE A TV

SIT DOWN, ENJOY THE FOOD
TALK ABOUT THE DAY
EVERYONE HAD A TURN

ENJOY THE MEAL, PRAISE THE COOK
AND AS WE GIRLS BEGAN TO COOK, PRAISE THE LUMPY GRAVY, AND SUGAR INSTEAD OF FLOUR GRAVY, THE PIE THAT APPEARED TO HAVE DROPPED,

DADDY SOLDIERED ON, EATING SECOND AND EVEN THIRD HELPINGS

OH, HOW WE MISS THAT MAN

A lovely paean to the male role model all children must have to grow up in a fulfilled manner...especially daughters. In this new age of same-sex parents, I often wonder about what the ultimate outcome will be in terms of their perspective on the natural logos of social life. I lost my own father at the age of four. Now that I think about it, I've never honored his memory in verse. Perhaps it's far more overdue than I think. Thanks for sharing this perspective on your own father. He sounds like one excellent specimen of fatherhood...and how rare that often is, these days!

Wow... Interesting in a unique way. Daughters are a blessing and how a father would be so proud of having a daughter who loves him so much.

Called ours Pop, perhaps because he was older than most fathers. Still not quite sure what he taught me, except that I didn't want to be like him, and at least on the surface, succeeded. And yet, as the years have flown, I'd like to finally sit down and have a long talk with him. Well done.

Sounds like a good, old fashioned (the best kind) dad and how you all sat around the table and conversed. A special time, made more special because of the kind of man your dad was.
