One Child's Wish

Every year I feel a deep sadness for the poor, the homeless, especially children....we have local turkey drives and such in our city....thank God for that! Food boxes are filled with all of the trimmings for a Christmas dinner and delivered to needy families that wouldn't otherwise have one. God bless them all!We do as much as we can...but it will never be enough to end poverty...sadly!

Poem Artwork

Snowflakes dancing on a vigorous breeze,
House aglow with festive lights,
A child all snugly in her bed
This peaceful Christmas night!
Beneath the concrete subway stairs,
In a corner out of sight,
A child cuddled in her mother’s arms
On this cold and wintry night!
One child dreams of candy canes,
And presents neath the tree,
The other child is hungry,
She dreams of things to eat!
Not much joy in Christmas for some,
Just another day of the year,
Poverty, strife and homelessness
Don’t leave much room for cheer.
Realistically we can’t end poverty,
But we’ll keep on doing our part,
And if we can grant just one child’s wish,
That’s a very good place to start!

Beautiful!! I have had both worlds at Christmas. What a great gift to help those in need. May God bless you every day of your life.

This brings tears to my eyes Anna. There are so many in need in my community. There are food drive drop offs in almost every store, and the fire and police departments are collecting toys. As you say, "if we can grant just one child's wish, that's a very good start."

This year I'm spending Christmas Eve serving Christmas dinner at our community center hall and during the day that day I'll be there cooking along with other volunteers. Nobody, young or old, will go to bed hungry that night.

Merry Christmas to you and yours my friend,
Marcia

Annabel,

AMEN! This poem hits the nail on the head. I write alot about the homeless, the children. Its so sad that some children have no Christmas. Thank God for the special people who help these families, these little children. Thank you for this write and for calling attention to their plight.

Blessings,
~Linda

Anna as a Mall Santa I see and hear so much, from the poorest child who asks for such a simple thing as a board game for Christmas to those who's list adds up to more than my car is worth. I hope that some of these parents would forgo even one of these high priced items and donate the money to a cause so that all children will have just a little happier Christmas this year.

So true, but I wish people could help needy adults as well: plenty of them as well. The disabled. The elderly. The homebound. Our poor/struggling/homeless Veterans, all here in our very own backyard. I know. I am one of them.

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Texas, Karen Lynn. :(

Great write, though ...
