OCD - Not In My House

Inspired by the movie "Matchstick Men." My daughter told me to watch it. Now, I know why. Well, I'm not that bad. This is for fun and not meant to offend. I am a bit of a neat freak. This could also be symbolic and mean a lot more than I can say.

Poem Artwork

OCD – Not In My House

(haiku format)

Soft is the kitten
Purring on the window sill
In the warm sunshine

By the fireplace
The dog has fallen asleep
He dreams of outdoors

On the floor below
A mouse softly scurries by
Looking for bread crumbs

In a dark corner
A cockroach quietly goes
About his business

Just above the door
A spider patiently waits
For a hapless fly

In the clothes closet
A moth is busy at work
Munching on cotton

Barely visible
The ants are getting frantic
Someone dropped a grape

On the kitchen floor
A silverfish flashes by
Seeking the shadows

Up in the attic
The bats hang from the rafters
Waiting for nightfall

High on the rooftop
The pigeons are discussing
Where to go for lunch

I think I'll go nuts
There's so much I can't control
No one is listening

I’ve lived in that house
But I no longer live there
I have OCD (not that bad really)

Good poem making OCD STAND OUT , taking shoes off when entering house was how I was brought up, kitchen floor scrubbed after every meal, dusting everyday, so clean when I was punished and told to dust the bedroom, I just sat on bed as it was so dustfree, lol, truth be told, OCD a disease - and it's bad enough for me to know I no longer live having to cope with it.

Just when you think you are alone...

I've known such souls, Regis, and perhaps at one time in my life dabbled a little on this edge, only to realize it signaled thoughts I did not want to think, feelings I did not want to feel. We humans are interesting and complex contraptions, aren't we?

I, one of the AD vampires, dropped by as I roamed the AD corridors these wee hours. Well, well, so your secret's out. LOL. I especially liked the following:

Up in the attic
The bats hang from the rafters
Waiting for nightfall

High on the rooftop
The pigeons are discussing
Where to go for lunch

Charming. I needed this laugh now, Regis. One of my good friends' husband is a neat freak, but what makes him Mr. Wonderful is that rather than drive everyone crazy, hoping tho force them to live to his standards, he cleans the house. Now that's what I'm talking about! Gotta find me one of those.

This is brilliantly wrote. Obsessive-compulsive disorder, I think we all have to some degree. Be it the child who is hyper; the man who constantly wipes his car of any speck of dirt; some people have to count everything many times over. A friend of mines would come to visit and as we chatted she was steady wiping my counter tops and stove. I don't see a person's disorder, I see their heart. Thanks
for putting truth of a disorder flavored with humor. This is a fine write that should be published. Just my 2 cents...

and yes it is a disorder...I mean when you see a

to get the edges all neat and straight...MY GAWD>>>>
LOL....I guess you know my house is clean..but it
drives me up a wall...I am a bit compulsive about
things being in order and tidy...but with him it is
serious...LOL....thanks for this offering...at least
I could laugh at it all....floria

OCD, not sure what it mean, but I assume it has something to do with keeping things relatively neat...man, you have got to be kidding, I live with a dog, that is 60 pounds of hair and 10 pounds of dog, and it is everywhere I look, I have to clean the vacuum cleaner after vacuuming up his hair, LOL! He brings everything he touches into the camper, as it attaches to his hair and like that...will have to rent Matchstick Men, I do recall a song by a group called the Bubble Puppy, way back in the psychedelic era called Pictures of Matchstick Men, oh I am sorry, got off the subject at hand, damn drugs...

Poem is really pretty, even talk of the little creatures that crawl behind our cabinets and such, if we don't know they are there, I personally am better off, LOL! Ants are so brazen, they crawl out on my counter top every now and then, I follow them to where they hide and spray the shit out of them with RAID...can't do much more, till they come out someplace else...sorry I had a cup of coffee and makes me rant long and prolifically...I enjoyed reading it, but it did make me wonder what Cynth'ya said, "reasons why" in the same silence...Peace thru the Word, Ed & Rufuz (w00f)

This thing you've written is so well put together, it should be recited by you on the Matchstick Men DVD! Everything has voice, the things that make us go "eek" cause one to read and ponder "reasons why" in silence.

Bravo on what I see as another AD winner!

I confess: I don't know what OCD means BUT.. that doesn't preclude my loving your poem and I do so love it, Regis. I decided to ignore my ignorance here and simply let the bursts of thought come as they do when I read... I could feel my smile widen at the ants, learning of the dropped grape.. and of the pigeons, discussing lunch.. all in all, you did something that will stay with me.. you wrote entirely of things that SHOULD elicit a groan, critters everywhere in the house... but, in fact, your magic pen brought a feeling of affection and revelation.. for that, I marvel at your poetic gift. katy xox.
