It's About Freedom. Stupid! 11/19/2005 9:41:35 AM
No sane person likes or wants war! Everybody wants peace! So, why are we in Iraq? We're continuing the revolutionary war against tyranny that began in 1776!
It began when the people in what is now the United States of America aligned themselves with 54 political thinkers who wrote a document declaring that everyone has a natural right to live with the freedom to seek personal happiness!
Almost all of the writers of that document either died, had their families destroyed or were ruined financially in the war fought to establish the first democratic republic in history.
Dictators and demagogues at home and abroad have always sought to destroy or control this experimental government that is based upon a constitution allowing people to govern themselves through a handful of representatives in the national capitol..
America began by setting fourth ideals that have taken a couple of centuries to realize. Women, then seen only as subservient to men, were declared equal under the law and allowed to vote by amending the constitution. Slavery was abolished first by a presidential decree, later by constitutional amendment, and thousands of soldiers died before the Union prevailed and freedom rang out south of the Mason-Dixon line.
The nation continues to bungle its way through history. Mistakes are made, then corrected. Some continue in need of recognition, clarification and modification.
Three deadly world wars have been fought to defend the republic. The Fourth World War has begun. In Iraq, the second battle in the war against tyrannical international terrorism, is costing the blood of American heroes.
People throughout the world want to enjoy the same freedoms and rights we enjoy. Just as the people of The United States did, they are struggling to set themselves free. In our revolutionary war for freedom, we drew foreign support from several European nations. In the Iraqi war for freedom, they draw support from scores of nations including our own.
Winning freedom demands winning wars! When the people decide that their freedom is not worth the fight, demagogues and tyrants are anxious to proclaim their victory. They can then take our property, reinstate slavery, and disenfranchise women -- that is, after all, why our boys and girls are dying overseas.
