Article 52 [Religion]
1) Citizens of the USSR are guaranteed freedom of conscience, that is, the right to profess or not to profess any religion, and to conduct religious worship or atheistic propaganda. Incitement of hostility or hatred on religious grounds is prohibited.
(2) In the USSR, the church is separated from the state, and the school from the church.

According to most calendars, I'm writing this in 2004 A.D. (Ano Domini - The Year of the Lord). Almost all of the founding documents of all of the nations of the world today, and all business-related correspondence and financial records use this calendar!
In the United States, today, there is an effort to expunge all reference to any implication of the existence of a divinity or power beyond human intellect. Can I hope that this will nullify all of the dated bills I get in the mail?
The "Russian Family Legislation" of March 1918 so radically secularized marriage that by 1926, if either spouse provided the marriage registrar with a written divorce announcement, it was accepted. This became known at the time as the "postcard divorce."
Unregistered co-habitation was legally equal to a registered marriage, and children born out of wedlock received the same inheritance privileges.

In view of recent trends and court decisions in the USA, I can't help but wonder whose constitution our courts are interpreting.
At the dawning of atheistic communism in Russia, the Catholoc Church decreed that members worldwide should pray in every Mass for the souls of the Russian people, and the end of atheistic communism.
Shortly after World War Two Churchill, Truman and Stalin discussed the boundries and recognition of the various nations of post-war Europe. Recognition of the Vatican city-state was questioned by Stalin. "How many divisions does the Pope command?" he asked.
That was over a half-century ago. The USSR with its nuclear missiles, air force, navy and army spreading atheistic communism worldwide, is no more. The Vatican, with its praying followers, remains.
In Middle-Eastern Mosques, religious leaders instruct the faithful to pray for death to infidels, particularly the United States. Througout the Muslim world, in homes, schools and public places, millions of Islamists face toward Mecca and pray five times daily.
