Alvin and Heidi Toffler's Third Wave (Click Here) offers a poltical/economic metaphor for the death of the Industrial Age. Does the aftermath of Katrina, Rita, and recent tsunami floods tell us anything about the coming chaos before world civilization enters the Cyber-Age?
It has been difficult for me to let go of the Pisces Age ideas of my childhood and youth. The days of the printed mail-order catalog, the horse-drawn ice wagon, and the Amos & Andy radio show are long gone -- but the political/economic ideas of those days prevail.
The idea that "the government" can support and protect the people has outgrown Otto von Bismark's "welfare state."
