Waiting for agents to respond to your proposal can be a fruitless use of time...or not Now that I am seeking a literary agent/publisher for my third novel as opposed to self-publishing the first two, perhaps the most striking observation is how long many of the agencies make you wait before responding, or not even doing that and presenting a response window (12 weeks in some cases) the closing of which means they're not interested without saying so. On top of that, many of them ask please don't contact other agents until we have had time to consider your book proposal. The upshot is waiting weeks to get a one-at-a-time two-line thanks but no thanks, or waiting weeks to hear nothing at all which translates to thanks but no thanks.
But it's okay. The upside to this upshot is that I have been able to do a lot of writing on my fourth novel while playing the waiting game on my third.
As someone once wrote, it's not hard but it is difficult.
