What if your heart is in many places? If home truly is where the heart is, what if you have been many places and left a part of you in several, some, or each of them?
I have had the fortune, whether good or bad is for you to decide, of having lived in quite a few cities during my 70 years and change. I liked all of them to some degree, really liked some, loved a few. However, a recent visit to my hometown after an absence of three years due to Covid and other issues showed me that my heart has never really left there, that of all the places I have been, that is the one which remains near and dear to me, the one I will always miss upon departing, and raises the question: Does this minimize where I live now or have lived since I left the home of my youth? I choose not to think so.
I believe the beauty of having your heart in many places while remaining true to the one is that it means you have a big heart, one you can leave bits here and there but in doing so not damage but rather expand it, kind of like a starter home, if you will, with many remodels and add-ons that embellish the original but do not replace it.
