Books are out there, waiting. Books, whether to write or read, are like a comfortable pair of house slippers always waiting to be of service whenever we are in want or need.
As an author, writing allows me to create my own universe of characters, settings, dialog, and situations by phrase, sentence, paragraph, page, and chapter. Even when I am agonizing over the right word to replace the almost right word there is no one, other than my own inner self, to bark directions or objections. It's just me and the keyboard, freedom at its finest.
Likewise, as a reader books can liberate us to faraway places or just to faraway places in our own mind. At present I am reading three books: a story set in Victorian England, a historical account of the papacy, and a novel about nine people caught up in a drama in an apartment. In terms of content, they are as different as night and day. In terms of relief, they are as similarly wonderful as word from a good friend.
The world of books whether to write or read is out there for each and all of us. And I am grateful it is there for me.
