To Write or Not to Write--This Is a Question? 4/7/2021 12:13:42 PM
Do we write when we want to or when we have to? I consider writing to be like reading a good book. Don't try to do it by schedule, compulsion, or force feeding but by how you're feeling it.
I sometimes go days no more than tweaking what I have already written, and then days writing quite a bit, and then days without writing a word. Sometimes it's because I have other things to do or am not feeling creative, but there is more to it than that. I don't want to hurry through my writing, indeed not wanting my stories to end, though in the titles I have written I know what the ending will be pretty much before I start Chapter 1.
I like to approach writing the same way I approach reading the books by my favorite author, who does one book a year. My wife always buys me his latest as a Christmas gift. I usually wait until fall to start it and then force myself to stop each day after reading 25 pages, all simply because I don't want it, like a good movie, to end, though like all good things I know it must.
Happy writing (and reading) everyone! God bless.
P.S. I'm open to reviews of my novel "Sandman" and would be happy to mail you a copy. Excerpts of both it and my second novel, "Derby Day," are posted at AuthorsDen.
