Premature Births: A Major Cause Of Learning Disabilities 3/9/2008 12:54:35 PM
In reality there should be little mysterious about learning defects. Most learning disabilities are cause by brain damage, a major cause being premature births. Premature births are increasing at an alarming rate, due to increases in multible births and survival rates for all premature babies.
These children are high risk for failure in school and antisocial behavior, including reform school and prison. However, the later does not have to be the case. We want to do everything that we can to make productive law abiding citizens out of these people.
In fact, many people with learning disabilities are talented in varous ways, and their education should be directed toward these talents.However, tradition and public opinion often work against these. On the positive side, people with learnimg disabilities stand to benefit from long term trends towards democracy, humanism and pluralism.
