My Little Polar Bear 7/7/2010 2:05:37 PM
When I brought Chloe home she looked like a fuzzy polar bear. I used to call her PB some. She was the most quiet puppy that they had. She was one of twelve puppies. She is smart and doing very well except for one problem. She would bite me. I am not talking about play biting like all of the other puppies I have ever had would stop when you would quit playing. This little critter would chomp down on any part of me she could get a hold of.
Somebody said, "Well why did you get a puppy that bites"?
Well she didn't bite when she was little. I took for her shots and the vet tech said that she was looking at me as the alpha and she didn't like that I was in charge. She said that everytime that she bit me she was saying you are going to do what I want. Well the battle of the wills was on. I tried everything that was suggested, and the only thing that would get her attention was to hurt her. I have only ever barely patted a dog that was in trouble before, but that was the only thing that she would respond to. I felt so bad. I hated to hurt her to try to get her to not bite me. On Sunday I was crying she would not let me alone. Everytime I would walk to the kitchen she would bite my ankles and I did not want to get rid of her. I read articles and looked through books. I even read about if you glare at a puppy or dog they look at that as a challenge. Lucky me I pick out a puppy that I am not even supposed to look at because she views it as a challenge. The article said I should look at the tips of her ears. While that cute little polar bear was sleeping you could not hardly find anything sweeter, but when she had her teeth locked onto any part of your anatomy from the side she looked like a crazed opposum with her teeth showing and trying hard to get a better grip. Needless to say she is now an outside dog. She is in her kennel and we moved the other two dogs up in with her and everybody is happy.
The other two dogs have put her in her place real fast and I think she will be a better dog out with them. I go out and pay attention to all of them now which they all like. She is getting so big now. The vet thought that she would weigh about 50 pounds when full grown. She knows alot of commands already and is really smart. If I was a dog however I never would have traded air conditioning and heat for dirt and grass. She loves her sisters though and is blissfully happy outside. Later - Lori
