We have a new emergency men's shelter in our hometown. Our town has had a shelter for women and children, but not for men until now.
When I used to homeschool our last two children there was a family that used to bring their three boys to play basketball with our son on his team. Well their youngest child is running this shelter. I took homemade chocolate chip cookies to the shelter and asked him what they needed. He replied that they really needed someone to teach them how to cook. Yep guess what my job is now. It is so much fun going over there!
I go once a week and show them how to fix a meal of their choice from a list of recipes. Last week at their Trunk or Treat on Sunday night they were planning for maybe four hundred people and made chili soup. Instead of what they expected they got somewhere between 800 and 1,000 people that came. I taught them how to make ham salad that day and they were having chili with the sandwiches. They had five big containers of chili sent back to the shelter that was left over from Sunday night. He said, "Isn't that cool" and I agreed totally. The stories that come from that place and our son's church that help run it are amazing of how God is working in so many lives.
If you want your life to be really happy just give of your time to a place where God needs hands and feet. I was about to croak not having anyone to cook for. My husband and son are health nuts. I love to cook and God placed me right in the middle of a need.
We have one problem the oven does not work. I feel so bad, because I had promised them I would donate my oven. I thought I was going to be able to get new appliances and that they could have mine. Now I find out that the money that I was going to use is not coming, because I was going to sell my part of the land from my dad to my brother and his wife decided that was not a good idea. I really hate to ask a favor, but if there is anyone out there that could spare some money to help it sure would be appreciated. If any of you could find it in your hearts to give just a little maybe we could at least get it fixed for Christmas. They are really good students and are learning alot, but this oven does not heat right. I told them that what they fixed last week does not even look like it is supposed to. It was good tasting but it was getting dark in a half hour and I usually bake it three hours.

If we get more money than we need anything left will be donated to the shelter. They still could use about three or four mattresses. Please pray about helping they really need all of the help that they can get. Please show these men that have fallen on tough times that there are people out there that really do care.
