My Task At This Moment In Time 7/15/2009 7:33:44 PM
It is a Blessing to follow your heart. At this stage in my life, I am no longer concerned about advancing in my career.
There are consequences from the social, economical, political, and physical actions of the 20th century that require our attention. My responsibility is to utilize my skills to repair and rebuild. It is important for me to do the work that I do for key organizations that are struggling and needed by children and families. Though titles are deemed important, it is the quality of my work and my ability to work with a team of people to build up an institution in the community that truly matters.
All human beings need Peace and Blessings. We all have gifts and talents not just to make money and buy things. We are Blessed with gifts and talents to work together to build, repair, and rebuild families, communities, nations and ultimately the planet. This is not political. “There are no political solutions to spiritual problems”, is a Native American proverb. We cannot heal with political solutions.
It is the way we live that creates healing or pain. Work is about a contribution to maintaining a society. I am accepting my responsibility to the tasks at hand. For the past few weeks I faced an internal dilemma. Do I make an upward career move? Do I continue to build upon the work I am currently doing that is building up an institution?
In being honest with myself, with the help of a colleague, I chose to build upon the work I am currently doing that is critical to the continued growth of the organization. My current role in the team is valuable right now.
I am at peace with my decision to not pursue the upward career move. There have been many times I faced these choices. A colleague/coworker/friend once told me, you will have many career choices. “Never choose based on title and salary alone. Base your decision on the work you are being tasked with. Follow your heart.”
The Blessing today I was able to see. My current responsibilities allow me to work with gifted, intelligent and talented people to make differences in the lives of children in New York and DMV. My life’s work so far has trained some phenomenal young people to become adults with not prestigious careers, but meaningful work improving the lives of children.
I am excited about working with a team to create more miracles by reaching more children and transforming more lives for the better
There is much work to do.
