The Price of Budget Cuts in Education 9/23/2009 4:27:56 PM
How do we prepare our children for tomorrow with severe budget cuts in education? I don't understand how we have allowed our school systems to falter. I don't understand that we could bail out Wall Street but cut investing in education.
We are leaving our children a world that is worse off not better. For generations we continue to decide that certain populations are not worth educating. That focus is slowly but surely leading the way for the elimination of public education. Public education is still new and can't be taken for granted.
We need children excited to learn. We need children’s natural curiosities strengthened not destroyed. We need children raised with love, compassion and respect.
Children become what they live. The people in the daily life of a child have the most influence.
As adults we need to find healthy ways to heal our spiritual and emotional wounds so we don’t pass them on to the children in our lives. We need to choose love always. We just can’t tell children to stay in school; we must create educational environments that make children want to stay in school. That takes a community, the businesses, and religious institutions, institutions of higher education, seniors, government and families working with neighborhood schools. It is not so difficult to do.
